抄録 Background and Aim:There are few reports about objectivity of the autofluorescence intensity. In this study, we examined the quantitative intensity of fluorescence in AFI images of gastric cancer and evaluated the objective visibility of the AFI images. Methods:A total of 80 early stage gastric cancers that had been evaluated by AFI endoscopy were included. AFI images were split into three bands(R, G and B)and expressed as grayscale values. The fluorescence intensity, defined as the ratio of the G band image grayscale value to that of the R band, was quantified using an image-analytical software program. The fluorescence index(FI), defined as the ratio of the fluorescence intensity of that cancer to that of the background, was retrospectively compared with the clinicopathological characteristics of gastric cancer. Results:In nineteen tumors of 24 elevated lesions, tumor color was purple in a green background with good endoscopic contrast. The FI of elevated lesions was significantly lower than that of flat depressed lesions(0.52843±0.24327vs. 0.78939±0.43577, p<0.05), and FI of a mosaic pattern and that of the purple tumors in AFI images were significantly lower than FI of the green tumors(0.59211±0.19512, 0.56014±0.50769 and 1.21556±0.50769, respectively p<0.05).No correlation was found between FI and depth of tumor invasion or histopathological diagnosis. Conclusion:Visibility of elevated-type gastric cancer in AFI images is high objectivity.
