The subspecialty practice and investigative field of gastroenterology have been very well served by several global scholarly publications, with many arising from international gastroenterology societies. The major English language publications of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology are the Journal of Gastroenterology and the Clinical Journal of Gastroenterology. The American Gastroenterological Association（AGA）publishes two journals, Gastroenterology and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. There will also be a new open access online-only basic science AGA journal, Cellular and Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology, which will start during the summer of 2014. In addition, the AGA co-publishes on a quarterly basis with HESCO International, LTD, select articles from Gastroenterology and from Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology that are written in Japanese and published in the journal Review of Gastroenterology ＆ Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. For the AGA journal Gastroenterology, the number of original clinical and basic science submitted manuscripts that originated from Japan has increased steadily between the years 2008 to 2012. Similarly, the number and percentage of accepted papers authored by colleagues from Japan has also steadily increased. It is clear that the gastroenterology field in Japan is continuing to grow and to contribute seminal discoveries. |
