How to manage the preoperative obstructive jaundice in biliary cancers?

抄録 Theoretically, favorable preoperative biliary drainage is though to be the one of most important factors for prognosis of biliary cancers. In other words, the condition of obstructive jaundice, liver dysfunction and cholangitis are considered major risk factors of postoperative complications. Recently, owing to the improvement of endoscopic procedures, endoscopic biliary drainage has been popular all over the world. However, so far the selection of preoperative biliary drainage method has depended on the preference of endoscopists. Furthermore, the latest development of stent devices, e.g. removable metal stent, absorbable stent, complicates the establishment of stand preoperative biliary drainage in biliary cancers. In this lecture, based on the review of literatures and our results, we will present the current status coming future of preoperative biliary drainage in biliary cancers.
